IST Selection Day

Six Network Scouts from across East Lancashire spent today (Sunday, 31st January) at a selection day in Runcorn, Cheshire to find out more about becoming members of the International Service Team (IST), and impress the Jamboree officials with the general skills and knowledge they have.

The IST are an integral part of any Jamboree: essentially, helping to organise, manage and run the whole camp. From start-to-finish, the IST build the entire Jamboree experience, and provide interesting, engaging and exciting activities for the 25,000 Young People who will be attending the 2011 World Scout Jamboree.

The day consisted of four main bases, where the 6 enjoyed various activities, based around three central themes: contribution, development and inspiration. At each base, our provisional IST members were challenged and tasked with fun activities including a treasure hunt, leading a five minute game to other Scouts and debating who ought to be saved from a failing hot-air balloon.

The team now have to wait for their applications to be approved by the Jamboree officials, and will hear whether they have gained a place as part of the 500-strong UK IST Contingent in March. Until then, it's sit back and hold tight, and the County would like to wish the team all the best.
